Cliffs of Moher

Cliffs of Moher

Welcome to Ireland! The Cliffs of Moher rise straight up from the crashing Atlantic Ocean, stretching for miles along the wild west coast.

Why is it special?

These dramatic cliffs stretch for about 9 miles along Ireland's rugged coastline.

On a clear day, you can see the Aran Islands and even the mountains of Connemara far in the distance.

How was it formed?

Over 300 million years, layers of rock, mud, and sand piled up and hardened into stone.

Crashing ocean waves have slowly worn away the softer rock, carving the steep cliffs we see today.

Amazing facts

The cliffs rise as high as 702 feet — that's taller than most skyscrapers!

Thousands of seabirds, including puffins, nest on the cliff ledges every spring.
