African Elephant
Meet the African elephant! It's the largest animal that walks on land, with big flappy ears shaped just like the map of Africa.
Why is it special?
It's the largest land animal on Earth — some bulls weigh as much as a school bus.
Its trunk is one of the most amazing tools in nature, used for smelling, breathing, drinking, and grabbing.
How does it live?
Elephants live in close family herds led by the oldest, wisest female, called the matriarch.
They "talk" to each other using deep rumbles so low that other elephants can feel them through the ground from miles away.
Amazing facts
An elephant's trunk has over 40,000 muscles — human bodies only have about 600 in total!
Elephants can eat up to 300 pounds of plants every single day.
