Fernando de Noronha

Fernando de Noronha

Welcome to Brazil's Fernando de Noronha, a chain of volcanic islands far out in the Atlantic Ocean, famous for turquoise water, dramatic rock peaks, and hundreds of playful dolphins.

Why is it famous?

Its beaches, like Baía do Sancho, are often ranked among the most beautiful in the whole world.

Spinner dolphins gather here by the hundreds every single morning, something almost nowhere else on Earth.

How was it formed?

The islands are the very tips of a giant underwater volcano that rises thousands of feet from the ocean floor.

Twenty-one islands and islets make up the archipelago, with just one main island where people live.

Amazing facts

A striking twin-peaked rock called Morro Dois Irmãos, or 'Two Brothers,' rises right from the sea and appears in countless photos.

The water is so clear that divers can sometimes see more than 160 feet down.
