Geirangerfjord

Geirangerfjord

Welcome to Norway! Geirangerfjord is a stunning stretch of sea water that winds between snow-capped mountains and cliffs so steep that waterfalls tumble straight down into it.

Why is it famous?

Geirangerfjord is one of the most beautiful fjords in the world, with cliffs that rise thousands of feet straight out of the water.

Several thundering waterfalls, including one called the 'Seven Sisters,' pour down the cliff walls into the fjord.

How was it formed?

Long ago, giant glaciers slowly carved this deep, narrow valley out of solid rock.

When the ice melted, seawater filled the valley, creating the fjord we see today.

Amazing facts

The fjord is about 9 miles long and over 1,300 feet deep in places.

It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its dramatic natural beauty.
