Mount Huangshan
Welcome to China! Mount Huangshan, the 'Yellow Mountain,' is famous for its jagged granite peaks, ancient twisted pine trees, and clouds that swirl below the summits like a fluffy white sea.
Why is it famous?
Huangshan is known for its 'Four Wonders': strangely shaped granite peaks, gnarled pine trees, hot springs, and a sea of clouds that often blankets the valleys below.
Artists and photographers have flocked here for over a thousand years — the scenery inspired an entire style of Chinese landscape painting.
How was it formed?
The mountain's granite was pushed up from deep underground millions of years ago.
Wind, rain, and ancient glaciers slowly carved the granite into today's dramatic spires and cliffs.
Amazing facts
Huangshan has 72 named peaks, with the tallest, Lotus Flower Peak, reaching about 6,115 feet.
Some of its famous pine trees are hundreds of years old and grow sideways right out of solid rock.
