Toronto
Welcome to Canada! Toronto is a huge, friendly city on the shore of Lake Ontario, famous for the soaring CN Tower, a real castle called Casa Loma, and people from all over the world calling it home.
Why is it famous?
Toronto is Canada's largest city and one of the most multicultural places on Earth, with people speaking more than 150 languages.
The CN Tower rises high above the skyline and was once the tallest freestanding structure in the entire world.
How did it grow so big?
The city began as a small trading post called York in the late 1700s, built beside Lake Ontario.
It was renamed Toronto in 1834, and waves of newcomers arriving by lake and rail helped it grow into the huge city it is today.
Amazing facts
