Pena Palace 3D
Welcome to Portugal! Pena Palace bursts with color — red, yellow, and blue walls, domes, and towers — perched high on a hilltop above the misty town of Sintra.
Why is it famous?
Its bold mix of colors and styles makes it one of the most unique palaces in the world.
It's considered one of the finest examples of 19th-century Romanticist architecture in Portugal.
How was it formed?
It was built in the 1840s on the ruins of an old monastery, after King Ferdinand II fell in love with the misty, forested hilltop.
The king mixed together many different architectural styles — Gothic, Moorish, and Renaissance — into one wildly imaginative building.
Quick facts
