Kaleido — Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 13, 2026 · Applies to the Kaleido app and website

Kaleido is an educational world-exploration app for young children, their families, and classrooms. This page explains, in plain language, what information Kaleido does and does not collect. We built Kaleido to work with as little data collection as possible, since it's meant for children.

The short version: Children never need accounts, profiles, or email addresses, and Kaleido has no ads. Exploration progress stays on your device. An adult may optionally use an email-only account to purchase and restore Full Access; Stripe processes payment details for us.

Information we do not collect

Analytics

Kaleido (both the app installed from the App Store/Google Play and the website) uses Google Analytics to understand overall usage — which places are visited, and general engagement signals like completing a quiz, earning a badge, or leveling up. This data is aggregate and anonymous: it is never tied to a name, email, or other personal information, and Google Signals/ad personalization are turned off, so it is never used for advertising or combined with other Google account data.

Information stored only on your device

As your child explores, Kaleido tracks XP, level, earned badges, and visited places so their progress carries over between visits. This is stored using your browser's or device's local on-device storage only (localStorage) — it is never transmitted to any server, and we have no way to see it. Clearing your browser or app data erases it permanently, and we cannot recover it.

Adult accounts and subscriptions

A parent, guardian, or teacher may sign in with a one-time code sent to an adult email address. Supabase stores that email, account identifier, and login session. Kaleido stores the minimum Stripe customer, subscription, price, status, and renewal information needed to grant access. Stripe collects and processes payment-card details; Kaleido does not receive or store the full card number. Signing out removes the session from that device, while the adult account remains available for access restoration. Contact us to request account deletion.

The AI Explorer chat feature

Kaleido includes an optional "Ask me!" chat where a child can ask a question about a place they're exploring (e.g. "How was the Great Wall built?"). When this feature is used:

Children's privacy

Kaleido is designed for children and built to minimize data collection accordingly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We do not require any personal information to use the app. If you are a parent or guardian and have questions or concerns about your child's use of Kaleido, please contact us using the information below.

Data sharing and sale

We do not sell, rent, or share data with advertisers. Information is sent only to service providers needed to operate the feature an adult or child chooses to use: AI questions to the configured AI provider, adult account details to Supabase, web payment details to Stripe, and aggregate analytics to Google Analytics when enabled as described above.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information in transit (such as encrypted connections), but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of Kaleido after changes means you accept the updated policy.
