Kaleido — Frequently Asked Questions

An educational geography resource for parents, guardians, teachers, and young explorers

What is Kaleido?

Kaleido is an educational world-exploration tool for kids roughly ages 5–10, designed for use by families, homeschoolers, and classrooms. It opens on a rotating Earth, and within seconds the camera flies a young learner to a real landmark, animal, natural wonder, or cultural site somewhere in the world. From there they can explore facts, photos, and sometimes a spinnable 3D model, chat with a friendly AI guide about what they're looking at, and follow "nearby discoveries" to the next place — an gentle loop of learning with no logins or dead ends. Playful interactions keep children curious, but Kaleido's purpose is to build geography knowledge and respectful awareness of the wider world.

How can parents and teachers use Kaleido?

Use Kaleido for child-led exploration, a homeschool geography prompt, or a short classroom field trip. Each place combines reviewed, age-appropriate facts with real photos, read-aloud support, location context, and a print-friendly learning sheet that can support discussion or follow-up work.

How does it work?

Is Kaleido safe and appropriate for kids?

Yes — this is a foundational rule of how Kaleido is built, not an afterthought. Every single photo and every fact shown in the app is manually reviewed by a human before it ships. Nothing is shown to a child just because an automated search turned it up.

See our Privacy Policy for exactly what data Kaleido does (and doesn't) collect.

Does Kaleido need the internet?

Yes, for loading photos and for the AI Explorer's replies. If the AI service is ever unreachable, the app quietly falls back to a friendly canned reply built from the place's own facts — the chat never breaks or shows an error to your child.

Are there any costs or in-app purchases?

Kaleido starts free with 10 complete place explorations, one Where in the World game, one quiz, and selected 3D models. One $2.99/month Full Access plan unlocks every place, the full 3D gallery, and unlimited games. Children never need an account; a parent, guardian, or teacher manages access. Compare plans.

My child asked a question and the AI's answer seemed off — what do I do?
